Forest biomes of Southern Africa

چکیده
The forests of South Africa and the neighbouring countries, including Lesotho, eSwatini, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique (south Zambezi River), were mapped classified according to global system biomes. new four-tier hierarchical biome suggested in this paper includes zonobiome, biome, continental (all recognised earlier), regional – a novel category. existing spatial coverages revised considerably improved, both terms forest-patch coverage mapping precision. Southern is home three zonal forest types, namely Subtropical Forests (Zonobiome I), Tropical Dry Forest (TDF; Zonobiome II) Afrotemperate X). These biomes are characterised by unique bioclimatic envelopes. Five, two, eight biomes, respectively, have been within these Recognition I southern expands our knowledge structure African biotic communities. azonal also comprehensively covers variability helobiomes (riparian woodlands swamp forests), mangroves, coastal forests. Palaeobotanical studies from tropical Africa: relevance to the evolution of forest, woodland and savannah biomes.
Fossil plants provide data on climate, community composition and structure, all of which are relevant to the definition and recognition of biomes. Macrofossils reflect local vegetation, whereas pollen assemblages sample a larger area. The earliest solid evidence for angiosperm tropical rainforest in Africa is based primarily on Late Eocene to Late Oligocene (ca. 39-26 Myr ago) pollen assemblage...
متن کاملThe Biomes and Vegetation of South Africa
At a global scale the vegetation of the world is sometimes described in terms of six Floristic Regions, often called the Floral Kingdom of the world. The distinction between regions is based on distinctive suites of flowering plants, taking into account those (particularly families) that are exclusive (endemic) to the region. Confined to South Africa is one of these distinct kingdoms; the Cape ...
متن کاملComment on "The extent of forest in dryland biomes".
Bastin et al (Reports, 12 May 2017, p. 635) claim to have discovered 467 million hectares of new dryland forest. We would argue that these additional areas are not completely "new" and that some have been reported before. A second shortcoming is that not all sources of uncertainty are considered; the uncertainty could be much higher than the reported value of 3.5%.
متن کاملMajor Southern Forest Diseases
A variety of forest health issues, concerns, and events have rapidly changed southern forests and plantations in the past two decades. These factors have strongly impacted the ways we manage forest pests in the Southern United States. This trend will no doubt continue to shape forest pest management in the future. The major issues and events of concern include changing forest conditions, urbani...
متن کاملSustainability of the Southern Forest
The ecological and economic sustainability of southern forests is being questioned because there are many competing uses for these forests and because there are large regional shifts in forest land use. To adequately understand the state of our forests and their use with respect to sustainability, several significant changes have been made in programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Fores...
